Who We Are
SureKiln is a small hand-thrown ceramics studio based in Frankfort, Kentucky. We make one thing: artisan vases and planters. No molds. No mass production. Every piece is shaped by hand on a potter's wheel, glazed once, and fired once. What comes out of the kiln stays exactly as the fire left it — we never retouch, never re-fire, never re-glaze.
We believe that the most beautiful objects are the ones that carry the evidence of their making. The slight wobble in a rim. The unexpected crawl of a glaze. The quiet asymmetry that tells you a pair of human hands made this, not a machine.
Our Process
The Clay — We work primarily with stoneware and porcelain bodies, chosen for their responsiveness on the wheel and their ability to capture glaze texture in high relief.
The Throw — Each piece is centered and pulled by hand. The rim, the curve, the foot — every decision is made in real time, guided by touch, not a template.
The Glaze — We work within three signature glaze families — Rust & Bone, Ash & Ink, and Moss & Plaster. Each glaze recipe is developed in-house and applied by hand. We never dip twice.
The Fire — Single firing. No bisque, no second chances. The kiln reaches over 2,200°F. When the door opens, whatever is inside is final. That is the contract we make with every piece: one chance to become what it becomes.
Why Handmade Matters
In an age of algorithmic recommendations and identical product pages, a handmade object is a quiet act of resistance. It cannot be optimized. It cannot be duplicated. It asks nothing of you except to exist in your space and remind you that some things are still made slowly, by someone, somewhere, with care.
That is what SureKiln is. Not a brand of ceramics. A collection of moments — clay on a wheel, glaze on a brush, fire in a chamber — preserved in permanent form.
